George Town Description:
Grand Cayman is the largest and most developed of the Cayman Islands. The Town is the capital, located on the west side Grand Cayman. It is the center of government, business and shopping.
The downtown George Town area is said to be compact and filled with a variety of stores all along the waterfront. Here it is possible to find a number of duty free shops where visitors can purchase jewelry, clothing, and souvenirs, as well as the "famous" black coral jewelry.
There are taxis available at the dock area and there is also a public bus system.
George Town Activities:
There are dive and snorkel facilities in the Town. There are said to be some very beautiful reefs nearby where you can see coral and a variety of fish. Apparently it is possible to see Eden Rock just south of the harbor.
Another Water-Based activity available in George Town is to take a submarine ride on the Atlantis or ride on the partially submerged Nautilus to get some underwater views if visitors prefer not to get wet from diving.
The Seven Mile Beach is north of downtown and very popular. There are many hotels and condos lining the beach, and also several public access areas.
Stingray city, the Turtle Farm and Hell are said to be well worth a visit.
